It all started in a shitty little apartment in South Philly in 1998,I was working the night shift at a gas station at the time when I learned that OverKill would be playing at the Trocadero and that’s when I got this crazy idea to repaint the back of my leather jacket. So after work and some sleep I started drawing OverKill logos on everything but nothing looked worthy to put paint to. At the time my gf who was pregnant with my son suggested I go for a walk to clear my head and get lunch so I grabbed my Walkman and tossed in my OverKill mix tape and off I went. As I online at the register when I got the idea. As song bastard nation was ending and in union we stand started I was looking at one of those small novelty American flags and then it hit me,so I bought one and headed back home.
I took that flag and changed the red to green and the stars to black with the OverKill "O" in it. It looked like crap but that’s where the flag theme started from. So with a week left till the show I knew what I wanted to put on the back of my jacket. So I headed to work to think of what else to put on it after my shift I got home and on the floor I see my gf had layed out some rough ideas for my jacket so I began the hard part of drawing the flag and logo on my jacket with a white wax pencil that was meant for animation cells not a leather jacket(I went through 20 of those dam things). And two days later I had everything on the jacket now it was time to paint. At this point I had to cover my gf's shift at work cause she was having labor pains and was told to take a few days off and rest so while I was at work she started to paint my jacket for me(not to worry i was using acrylic paint..that’s all I had left from my days at AIPH)while I worked 16hr days, she did a great job when she finished it I would add the finer details and after less than a week it was just about done plus there was 3 days to the show and I still needed to put the clear coat on and get sleep before the show.
The night of the show my jacket was done and off I went. the show was great as usual(you can see the pics in the gallery). After the show I was outside when I bumped into D.D. and we starting shooting the shit and asked me what I was doing in Philly cause he always sees me at the shows in Long Island & NYC. So I told him what was going on and showed him my jacket and he was like wow man that’s cool that would make an awesome t-shirt I said sure Ill make up some prototypes and you guys can choose which one you like,we shook hands and that was that.
Those prototypes never got made because my gf went into labor after we moved back to NY and it took a back seat for awhile.
After about a year or so we got a computer (with dial up)and we both wanted to make websites but didn’t have the funds or the know how to do it but I was determined to get it going so I went the cheap route and used Geocites(which has been closed down). My vision for the overkill nation was more like a biker gang there would be different chapters in each state or town. sounded good but never caught on. So I began work on a new logo based off of my jacket there have been tons of them over the years and even had a few people tell me to stop using the flag but I never listened to them. After some rough times I decided to step away from geocites and use Tripod and use a flash intro which today is still up. Eventually I went to a dot net for awhile then in 2009 I went with a dot com and have done my best to keep this site updated with newest info on the band as well as change themes to keep it looking fresh.
And in 2011 I took my 12 year old son to see OverKill for the first time, not only did I show up with my son but I finally had T-shirts and gave one to each member of the band. When I gave D.D. his shirt he said
"I remember you were going to make a shirt way back when." and smiled and thanked me and my son who has heard this story so many times and thought I was pulling his leg about it all this time but he looked at me and realized his old man was not pulling his leg.
THANX 4 SOMETHING!! I couldn’t have done this by myself.
"Raise the flag high for all to see we are all the same!"
